Stanley Yarulis grew up in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Elizabeth High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the 475th Infantry Regiment. Yarulis was sent to Fort Riley, Kansas, and was attached to a mounted cavalry unit and later underwent infantry training.
